The Wilderness
A Review
““There is no good and evil, only healed and broken.” Conrad liked to say when Nakia was growing up. It was his way of priming her to forgive, to build instead of burn bridges.”

Thoughts - After I read Angela Flournoy’s first book, The Turner House, I knew I would read anything she wrote; I would follow her down whatever literary path she wanted to take me on. I followed her on social media and would periodically check in to see if she’d written anything new. I was so excited when she posted on IG sharing galleys of The Wilderness. I was even more excited when I commented on the post asking if I could get an advanced reader copy and then received one. This is a story that lingers in your spirit. Angela really knows how to make characters come alive. I find myself thinking about Desiree, Nakia, Monique, and January like old friends I’ve lost touch with, wondering how they are and what they’re up to. This book is a testament to the power of friendship, what we go through to preserve it, and what it helps us survive.
